Olivia’s story

I started at GSTS when I was 17 in 2018. I had been to college previously and been on a Hair and Beauty course and worked for my auntie on a Saturday job collecting money in a car park.

I was looking for other opportunities, so joined a traineeship programme with Asset Training. They sent me for an interview at GSTS, I started off quite nervous and not knowing how the day would unfold. I must admit I did not know anything about the security industry, and it all felt a bit strange.

I was placed on a 6-week work experience to see if I liked the company and GSTS liked me. I began just filing and learning the different processes that the company did. I did not know anything about office etiquette and just took the lead of my line manager Stuart. Everyone gave me a great welcome and looked out for me, which gave me the confidence to start taking telephone calls and sending and receiving emails.

It was great speaking regularly to our staff across the UK and I think they have now all got used to my strong Liverpool accent… a few of them really struggled at first.
Stuart took me to meetings so I could understand and learn about what my role would entail. I was also taken to our sites to see how the staff duties worked. I successfully passed my traineeship and GSTS offered me an Apprenticeship in Business and Admin level 2 for 1 year.

Throughout my time the training and support I have received has been amazing. GSTS has really encouraged me to develop my skills, knowledge, and behaviours within my role. Almost every day I learnt something new and got involved in the administration of the numerous internal and external training courses we run.
We run so many courses for our staff and some of them are very specialised.

I have also learnt a lot about the British Standards and our ISO accreditations. It seemed a bit daunting at first but having been involved in several audits it becomes quite easy.

I recently passed my Business and Admin level 2 and again GSTS have supported me in my choice of career path into HR by providing me with a HR Diploma Level 3, which

I have just started. I want to get as many HR qualifications as I can and as much experience as I can.

I see HR as being of real assistance to all staff as it allows everyone to understand their terms and conditions and to feel they are all part of a bigger picture.

I am part of a great team which have achieved a great deal in my time here. I thoroughly enjoy every single day.

I am proud to be a part of such a great team my boss Stuart always says “He wants this to be this last job he ever has” I understand where he is coming from because there is no place I would want to work except for GSTS.
