GSTS welcomes Robbie Whelan as Training Manager

We’re proud to announce the arrival of our Training Manager, Robbie Whelan.

Robbie has a varied and extensive training background from his time in the British Army and latterly, in the private security sector.

During his 16 years in the army, Robbie reached the rank of sergeant and was one of the relatively few, elite instructors given the responsibility of training new recruits at the Army Training Regiment in Winchester. This is a role that Robbie enjoyed immensely and ignited his passion for training. He gained immense satisfaction from turning ‘civvies’ into fully fledged soldiers. Robbie is a qualified army firearms, physical fitness and adventure training instructor.

Robbie completed tours of duty in Northern Ireland, Macedonia as well as three tours of Iraq and five of Afghanistan. He understands exactly what it means to work under pressure and lead a team.

On leaving the army Robbie worked abroad carrying out operational security work in north east Africa and specialist security training in Saudi Arabia.

On returning to the UK Robbie worked as concierge and security at numerous high-end jewellers across the North West and North Wales. Robbie was also a Team Leader for UK Military Schools consisting of delivering a standard intervention course of team building, physical education and field skills to raise attainment through a military ethos to key stage two children across the North West.

“I am passionate about training and helping people get the most out of themselves. I like to make training interesting and enjoyable. Not everyone learns the same way and I understand that different people require different styles of delivery. I am excited to be part of a company that shares my enthusiasm for training and development”
