Specialist Security Presence Service

GSTS security services based in Liverpool working with the NHS. specialist security presence service

GSTS is proud to announce that it is expanding its Specialist Security Presence service, following its success in the Manchester region.

This follows an in-depth report that GSTS competed into current services available within this sector.

It was found that:

  • Security officers were completely untrained and not orientated to their duties.
  • Officers deployed had poor communication or language skills.
  • Officers were putting ‘illegal’ manual restraints on patients.
  • Officers had little or no grasp of legislation.
  • The presence of some officers was counterproductiveto the patient’s needs.

The GSTS Specialist Security Presence Officers provide 1-2-1 secure care for vulnerable patients in any clinical setting. Staff are specifically chosen with the correct soft skills to make sure that they are perfectly equipped to manage potential challenging behaviour and avoid confrontation.

Officers provide real-time dynamic risk assessments and support healthcare staff, establishing a safe and secure environment for patients, staff and members of the public.

This ensures a caring and compassionate environment for vulnerable patients either diagnosed with mental health issues or who are at risk from self harm or are a risk to others.

Our staff are assigned to patients and deliver the necessary interventions to safeguard the welfare of medical staff so they can concentrate on delivering outstanding healthcare.

Where requested, they will also assist medical staff with securely transferring patients to alternative locations.

All GSTS Specialist Security Presence officers undergo intensive training which is unique to GSTS and delivered by trainers who have years of sector specific experience:

Control and Restraint Course.

This allows our staff to manage safety during physical intervention. It outlines our responsibilities during and immediately following physical interventions.

GSTS Patrol Course.

This course allows us to deploy security staff who can make rapid assessments and immediate decisions when they observe actions or behaviour which is threatening.

GSTS Specialist Presence Course.

This gives our officers the requirements and expectations of the role including legal powers and policy together with task specific legislation and local procedure.

Critical Incident Training.

We train our officers to have the ability to develop an effective response in the midst of any crisis.

What they say:

All the security staff have been engaging and co-operative to both staff and patients, on whatever the issue is that they are supporting us with. They are treating the patients with dignity, empathy and understanding. There is no intimidation or conflict and patients are definitely calmer and responsive to being treated with this level of respect.

Senior Matron Acute Medical Unit

I was extremely impressed by two of your officers who helped us out in the ED last weekend with a disturbed patient in the resus room. They acted with skill and professionalism and were a credit to your organisation.

Consultant in Emergency Medicine

The presence of your officers has undoubtably made our lives a lot easier. The team and I have noticed a dramatic improvement in their professionalism and attentiveness.
