My journey so far with GSTS…

Healthcare Security Officer

By Ella Newcombe – Healthcare Security Officer

My name is Ella Newcombe, I am 23 years old and I recently started with GSTS as a healthcare security officer, based in south Manchester, Wythenshawe hospital. My first impressions of GSTS was how passionate everyone was in keeping NHS staff and patients safe and that each officer, supervisor, and manager gave me a warm welcome. I began initially to support the Covid-19 response duties at the hospital but quickly progressed on to the core team after my performance was identified and acknowledged from our GSTS Operations manager and subsequently offered a full-time, permanent role. I was site inducted under a structured programme that gave me the opportunity to learn the role in depth.

The role can be challenging, demanding but also very rewarding and I have received a substantial amount of training in such a short space of time that includes Control and Restraint bespoke for our ESSO duties, Mental Health Legislation, Action Counters Terrorism and various other beneficial online modules. The training has given me the confidence to tackle difficult situations within the hospital environment but to also ensure an empathetic approach is always taken and that patient care remains at the forefront of what we do. Although I am experienced in the security industry, I have never worked within the healthcare sector prior to joining GSTS, so I was extremely nervous but the training and support received helped a lot alongside support from my colleges, supervisors and managers.

“I am really happy to be part of the team and look forward to learning more and progressing within the company and reaching my full potential with GSTS”.
